What is it?

 

 

KOSMICA Magazine is an annual publication and website dedicated to critically examining space culture. 

 

This includes a wide range of themes, such as imagination, kindness, politics, art, social justice, ancestral wisdom, among others. We invite writers, artists, photographers, poets, scholars, and creative spirits to contribute to the inaugural issue of KOSMICA Magazine!

 

 

 

What is the first edition about?

 

 

In its first edition, KOSMICA Magazine will explore the concept of the origins of our earthly roots and cosmic ancestries. By embracing multiple perspectives, we welcome scholarly formulations, visual poetry, and literary expressions to ponder the fundamental questions that have occupied our thoughts for millennia: What is the most universal origin? Can we forge new beginnings? 

 

Our goal is to approach these inquiries with an ecocentric viewpoint, recognising our interconnected roots on this planet and beyond. From the origins of stars and emotions to stones and spacetime, from the Big Bang to viruses, from volcanoes to consciousness, and from supernovas to religions, we aim to investigate how this array of responses shapes meaning and impacts our cultures today.

 

Simultaneously, we seek contributions that envision fresh origins, drawing inspiration from our Earthly histories and learnings, to cast a new light of hope during these critical times of ecological catastrophe. We welcome submissions in the forms of thought-provoking prose, visual essays using photography and art, as well as poetry and lyrical essays.

 

In summary, we invite contributors to explore the following themes:

 

_The genesis of all existences

_The interconnection of terrestrial and cosmic histories

_Cultural, spiritual, and scientific viewpoints on origins

_Contemplations on ancestry and heritage

_Decolonial perspectives on the concept of origins

_Visions of new beginnings on Earth and beyond

 

 

 

How to pitch to KOSMICA Magazine?

 

 

If you are considering pitching an article, poem, essay,  or photographic essay idea to KOSMICA magazine, please first look through our website, Instagram, and research our past work to get a feel for our house style and what we are looking for. Also, take a look at the About section of KOSMICA.

 

Please send pieces of work that are relevant to the topic of this inaugural issue (See above). You can send completed articles or essays, or an email an outline of 300 words or less stating your idea, what makes it interesting, why it matters now, what perspective or reporting you will bring to it, what theme of the magazine you see it fitting with, and the article style you have in mind (feature, photographic essay or dialogue). 

 

Please don’t send large files via email. If you have images that you want us to view then please send a private website or cloud link.

 

Send us your pitch or idea for your submission at magazine@kosmicainstitute.com before January 31, 2024. Please include a brief bio and a relevant portfolio. We value diverse voices and perspectives, fostering an inclusive space for all contributors so we urge whoever to apply.
