RESEARCH
MARIE-PIER BOUCHER
TORONTO, EARTH
Dr. Boucher’s research focuses on the design of habitats for sustaining life in extreme environments. She is currently working on a book project, which looks at the relationship between health, architectural design and perceptual activity in a range of extreme environments (physical and symbolic) to examine how the changes in direction and orientation induced by levitation and microgravity can inform the design of Earth-based habitats. She is also working on an umbrella project, Interplanetary Habitation: The Earth, the Moon, Mars and the City, which investigates the socio-technical future of planetary life in relation to growing concerns over health and biotechnology, mobility and artificial intelligence.
CLAIRE WEBB
BOSTON, EARTH
An early love of astronomy led Claire to pursue that major at Vassar College, and her college job was working in the Observatory. Through a particularly memorable REU, she did research at the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence and was brought on to help with further research in Tahiti. At school, Claire was interested in other disciplines, too, especially feminist studies and philosophy. She is interested to understand how the SETI Institute was able to harness and then frame an enduring narrative of popular science. She also wants to incorporate feminist philosophy of science and epistemology in this investigation.
FELIPE CERVERA
SINGAPORE, EARTH
Dr Felipe Cervera is a Mexican theatre and performance maker, lecturer and researcher based in Singapore since 2012. His academic work centres on the intersections of astronomy, astronautics and performance theory, as outlined in his doctoral thesis Planetary Performance Theory, which received the faculty nomination for the Wang Gungwu Award and Medal for Best PhD Thesis in the Social Science and Humanities at the National University of Singapore. He is currently working on his first monograph, tentatively titled Planetary Regimes: Performance and The Extraterrestrial.
