Over 5 weeks, Nahum, KOSMICA’s Director, will lead you on a journey to explore how artists have influenced space travel. All of this, while you learn the tools they've employed to envision our futures in space. Plus, Nahum will provide hands-on guidance as you develop your own space and art project.
You will learn how artists from various disciplines and across history envisioned humanity's journey beyond Earth. Even before space travel was possible, artists were already creating the artworks that inspired both scientists and engineers to make space travel possible. The aim of this masterclass is to highlight the importance of these types of artworks and to develop new ideas for humanity's journey in the Cosmos.
The masterclass is designed to equip you with the theory and practical aspects of space and art projects. You will gain deep insights into the historical relationship between art, culture, and space throughout history. From ancestral cultural expressions to contemporary approaches to space and art.
For more than a decade, Nahum has worked extensively with space agencies around the world, conducting space missions for artistic purposes, including zero gravity flights and the installation of the first interactive artwork in the International Space Station. With his experience, you will be supported in conceiving and producing your own space and art project. He will present the different strategies you can use to access the international space community, use space technologies, and collaborate with scientists, engineers, astronauts, and space organisations.
At KOSMICA we believe that artists and creatives can directly contribute to developing new visions that will revolutionise space travel with kindness, compassion, and creativity, as well as exploring new ways to connect and experience the Cosmos.

Artists at risk
We offer a limited number of spaces in our programme for artists at risk. An artist at risk is any artist who faces threats to their safety, freedom, or well-being due to their creative work, or who is affected by war or displacement. If you qualify, please send us an email to elevate@kosmicainstitute.com with a brief explanation about your situation.
What you will learn
.Learn about the historical links between culture and our understanding of the Cosmos, gaining insights into how cultural perspectives have shaped our knowledge of Space.
.Understand the contemporary role of artists and cultural practitioners in space activities, exploring how their contributions enhance and expand our knowledge of the Cosmos.
.Develop a critical and artistic approach to creating space and art projects, allowing you to conceptualise and produce your own unique projects.
.Gain skills in collaborating effectively with space organisations, preparing you to work on interdisciplinary projects that bridge the gap between art and space.
Commitment
Participants are expected to attend all 5 sessions, each lasting 1.5 hours. If you cannot attend one of the classes, we will provide you with a recording of the class upon request.
The course will involve assignments such as reading articles and viewing films and videos, which will be collectively discussed during the sessions. Additionally, every participant will work on an individual project throughout the course. This project can take the form of a completed artwork in any medium, a prototype, an original written piece, or a research paper. These projects will be shared at the conclusion of the masterclass.
