At KOSMICA, we have developed a methodology known as the Black Canvas, which draws upon what artists used to envision space travel before it was embraced by science and technology.
 
Let’s recall that even before the concept of rockets and spaceships emerged, artists were already picturing humanity’s existence beyond Earth through their artistic creations. From Georges Méliès’ early space fantasies, a pioneer in cinema, to Gustav Holst’s symphonic journey through the solar system, artists have been exploring cosmic journeys in imaginative ways.
 
Today, contemporary artists continue to push the boundaries of possibility, creating new visions for our world and beyond.

A need for imagination

 

How can we see beyond what we already know? How can we create new collective paradigms and ideas?

 

Today doing things in the same way we always have done them is a sure recipe for disaster. With each new scientific revelation, we are realizing how we have underestimated the complexity of the challenges we face, as well as the urgency of radically changing paradigms within our human systems.

 

This is why we need to start cultivating a culture of radical imagination where systemic changes reach the depths of our collective psyche. Let’s remember that challenges cannot be solved by the same kind of thinking that gave rise to them.

We have developed a programme that shares the creative strategies of artists who imagined space travel before science and technology did

 

This programme is designed to unleash creativity and push imagination. We will teach the skills used by one of the most creative groups in our society: artists working in space activities. 

 

This course aims to share the techniques and strategies used by these artists that have shown us the way to the stars. You will acknowledge and reconnect with your creativity and overcome creative blocks. This programme is also an invitation to reflect on potential vulnerabilities in the creation process and on how creativity can be nurtured on a regular basis beyond this programme.
